And just like that we have moved. Moved to a new neighborhood. I am still having trouble wrapping my mind around it. I still struggle to see the good things and am more aware of all the things bothering me, annoying me and just being different. Not a great feeling. And since my farewell list has been a good thing to do I decided to create a new neighborhood bucket list to explore my new surroundings in this area.
I already have a few things indicated but I might add more once I get to see what is possible around here. So lets dive in and see what this bucket list will include.
- Explore the street with the crooked houses. Take the camera and make it a photo walk.
- ✔️Eat at the restaurant by the ferry station – Himmel und Havel. Maybe my birthday dinner?
- ✔️Set out to see an otter. Apparently they live in a body of water nearby.
- ✔️Explore the woods and go to the marshes that are somewhere hidden there.
- ✔️Do a bike ride along the shores.
- Try that famous ice cream place “Mr. Ice Cream” that only has 5 star ratings.
- Find three spots within walking distance that make me happy.
- ✔️ Talk to three new neighbors. And not just a friendly hello.
- ✔️ Go to the new church and make some contact.
- Visit the library bus that stops at the supermarkets parking lot every Tuesday and get a book.
So far for my neighborhood bucket list. Do you have a list of things you’d like to explore in the neighborhood. Have you ever had to move to a place you didn’t really want to? How did you adapt? Is there a library bus in. your area? Have you visited?

Change is so hard and FORCED change is even harder. I’m sorry it has been such a difficult year for you but wishing you many unexpected joys and delights in your new neighbourhood in the days and weeks to come.

Thank you Elisabeth. I think the forced part is what’s bothering me most. But I do need to get over it and just be here. Embrace and be let the past behind.
Thank you so much for your support
I love that you came up with a “new neighborhood bucket list”, making lemonade out of lemons. It’s definitely hard to adjust to change, especially if it’s a change you didn’t want… but I hope you can settle in and find joy in your new place/neighborhood. Keep us posted.
Definitely trying my best here and it’s time to embrace this new neighborhood and not grief to much. Thank you for listening to all my heartache. Happier posts are coming
We moved to a disgusting little town right after my husband got a PhD for him to do a visiting position at a small state university. We knew we had to move, but I hated that town, hated that university, and we had a terrible date at a Dairy Queen where I cried into my ice cream. Fortunately, there were some lovely aspects to the town. There were great hiking trails, a lovely lake where we took canoe lessons, and the gym at the university was absolutely amazing. I’ve never been to such a great gym since. And it wasn’t forever. We moved in a year and now it’s all a hazy memory.

Thank you for sharing that story. I guess not every move is a dream. Some are just stepping stones to another great adventure. I am starting to wrap my head around it and start to see the small little things that will bring me joy here.
Not that you need to hear my story, too, but I had a move, for a job that I *thought* I wanted. And I really didn’t. And I cried the whole way from the old house to the new place (a 2 day drive) and then left the job after 16 months of truly hating where we lived. So I get it. I really do. <3 You will find a few things that you like – maybe even love. (I had a diner that I still talk about fondly.) You will make new connections. It may never have been your *choice* to move there but you're still going to be okay. You're strong, and you're resilient.

Thank you so much for your encouragement.
Your story sounds hard too.
When the husband and I walked home today we talked about how much we already like it that it is a bit surprising. I guess once you are thrown into a new situation you will manage and maybe even start to like (love?!) it. I have a good feeling now.
