With all the marketing mails in my inbox and the immense shopping ads and Black Friday sales flying around I sat down and really thought what I would like to have. Things I would ask for Christmas for. Because let’s be honest – I am so lucky and privilege that I really don’t need anything. I may want something sure. But even that is usually a hard thing to come up. However, I found a few things I want to put on my Christmas wishlist 2024.
Books.
Never not wanting books. I believe books are one of the best presents to get on Christmas. Here is a list of ones I really would love to unwrap:
- Die Erinnerungsfotografen – I have a feeling this is a wonderful whimsical book and I would love to get inspired by it.
- The Slow regard of silent things – I loved the first book in the series and the second one is on the shelf to be read. Best to continue right away and not wait till get the following.
- 50 Words of Snow – do I need to say more besides the title? This one on my list last year already.
- The Last Educate by Naomi Novik – two years ago I received the first book in the trilogy
- Ist es nicht ein Wunder, dass es uns gibt? by Jostein Gaarder – the newest book of my all time favorite author.
- Lula Dean’s Little Library of banned Books – I loved The Change by this other and I can only image how cool this one is.
My book wishlist is long though.
Puzzle.
for the past years I have been getting puzzles for Christmas. And I love it. I have never done a puzzle more than 1000 pieces and I am ready try a bigger one. I love this one with Northern lights. Or this color explosion ( is this hard or to? Melissa may know). And this fall foliage one is probably really hard.
Growing Mushrooms.
I have gifted this to my sister and she had huge harvest. I have also gifted something similar to my dad. Can you tell I really want this?
Eucalyptus plant.
I used to have a eucalyptus plant but it died. Well, its was killed by water deprivation if we are honest. But I love the look and the smell and I really would like a new one.
Kombucha Kit.
I have been asking for this Kombucha Starter Kit since 2021. Maybe this year I finally get it…
Leather Jacket.
An essential that I need to replace. My current one a gift from the husband is fake leather and it’s peeling away. So much so that I can’t wear it and I need to discard. But come spring I NEED another one.
Apple Watch
And if I am very honest I would love a new Apple Watch. Do I need one? No. Mine is working. However I have series 3 (we are at series 10) so it is old and especially the sleep tracking including the apnea is not available. So that would be a treat.
Now your turn: What is on your wish list for Santa? Is there a wish that is on the list for years and no-one gets it to you? Do you prefer giving presents or getting them? Do you give gifts you’d rather keep for yourself?

It’s so hard when people ask what I would like. It’s fun to open a gift rather than a gift card, but so often I am picky and would rather go pick out what I want. What I really want is to be healthy and lose 20 pounds and go to Paris for a month, but those things are not really things anyone else can give me.
If I were asking Santa for something reasonable, I would say, a gift card for a massage, a nice bottle of wine, maybe a book (my husband surprises me and just buys me a book he finds at the bookstore, and he has a very good track record, generally I love them)
Oh if we talk about things I want but can’t be given I have a ton…
As for the others…. massage sounds nice. I’d skip the wine and books are always great. My husband has a great track record picking out clothes for me. Things I would never buy outlive so very much.
We are travelling for Christmas this year so I don’t know if we will have presents. I haven’t even thought of what I might want…
I am very intrigued by the mushroom growing kit. My brother had one once.
We did a 1500 piece puzzle at my office last month and ot was hard! Usually I don’t like looking at the box when I do puzzles, but this 1500 piece puzzle broke my reaolve!
Traveling over Christmas and having a ton of presents is probably not working. Maybe just one that fits in the palm of your hand?
I am really hoping the mushroom kit or the kombucha kit are something I can try out. It would be fun.
As for the puzzle I am not so very strict as not to look at the picture. I rarely do.
I have so many things I need it’s ridiculous, and things I want especially books. But I also have many many unread books waiting so it kind of feels silly wishing for more.
Your list is great, I hope you get some of it.
Don’t ask How many unread books occupy shelves it’s ridiculous. However, I always wish for books. I want to hear more about what you need and want.
I prefer to give gifts!
I don’t have a huge wish list this year, but know I’m getting an upright vacuum. My old handheld vacuum is…10+ years old and while I still use it, it’s not in great shape.
I really don’t like making the gift if I have to, and I prefer making gifts I created myself but many people don’t appreciate them. I find them unused at my families home so it’s always a little bit sad. I’m not sure how I feel about getting a vacuum, but it seems like you really wanted it so fingers crossed Santa is getting you one.
I love gift wish lists! The only thing I’ve been thinking about this year for Christmas is my annual Christmas “book flood.” I think The Solitaire Mystery is going on my list (thank you!)
I hope you get everything on your list!
I love how you plan your book flood.
I am very much hoping you a) receive the Solitaire Mystery and b) at least like it and maybe even love it.
I love Jostein Gaarder! I usually buy myself a couple of books for my husband to give me – just easier that way lol. I really don’t need anything either (except more books, always). I give books to almost everyone too, so Christmas is just a big bookfest in our house.
Oh a big book fest sounds lovely. I tried to establish that we just give books to each other but I wasn’t successful since I am the only big reader in my family. But my godchildren only get books from me for Christmas. That is a rule/tradition because I think Christmas without books is bad.
Which is your favorite Jostein Gaarder book? Hardly anyone knows him but I try to read every of his books.
An Apple watch that tracks sleep might be helpful for me. The mushroom growing kit sounds interesting! I love it when people make wish lists so I can buy them things they actually want!
I didn’t grow up with wish lists. Only when I met my husband this was starting to be a thing. I have a hard time buying from wishlists because I always think that person know what will be gifted and I didn’t put much effort in. It’s hard.
The husband will most definitely not get me the mushroom kit. He hates mushrooms and doesn’t want them on the terrace.
A mushroom growing kit. Now that’s something else! I haven’t written my wish list yet but I always love peeking at other peoples’ lists just for fun!
I have been eying these mushroom kits for a while. I actually gifted some to my sister and my dad and they loved it. I give gifts I want to have but no one gets the hint.
Nice to see what you would like to get. I don’t have such a list but I keep a list of books I want to read. Books are so personal, like underwear, only the person knows what feels like reading/wearing it. My girls often ask me what I want and I honestly don’t know. then I tell them, any serving bowls/plates is a safe bet. :)
I agree books are very personal and can be intimate.
I have a hard time wishing for something too but I have started to force myself to put something on a list so I can articulate what I would never buy myself but would love to have. I don’t need anything of these but I would appreciate them.
I find it harder and harder to make wish lists these days because, for the most part, I can buy the things I want! And I don’t feel right asking for something that’s hundreds of dollars (aka, something I’d need to save for a while to afford). Alas, I find stuff to put on my Christmas list and I find it rather fun to have presents to open on Christmas.
Same here I could buy everything I really need. But — at least for me — I rarely allow myself things I want and don’t need. Like the Apple Watch… I don’t need a new one mine is working it is just lacking features. Or the candles I would love to have them but I am too cheap to spend the money on it.
But it’s a hard exercise. I started writing this post in October…
