Sitting here looking outside into the fall foliage I am thinking about all the different jobs and careers that interest me. All the things I would like to do – at least for a day – because they seem so fun. In a parallel universe I very much hope my alter ego is having the chance to live out those careers.
In a parallel universe I would like to be…
… an archeologist. I’d like to shed some light on old civilizations. Getting dirty in the desert, decipher an ancient language.
In a parallel universe I would like to be…
… an Olympian. Preferable in Volleyball. Or in the long or triple jump.
In a parallel universe I would like to be…
… a captain of a boat. Yes I know I barely got my license but it is something I can see myself as.
In a parallel universe I would like to be…
… shaman. Living in sync with nature, knowing cures the earth provides, listening to the stories of our ancestors. I think it would be a good life.
In a parallel universe I would like to be…
… an astronaut. Seeing the earth from above, riding among the stars, taking on an adventure.
In a parallel universe I would like to be…
… an artist. Creating beautiful things. Things people cherish and that is meaningful to them. Things that make this world a better place.
In a parallel universe I would like to be…
… a National Geographic photographer. Being in nature capturing its beauty. Strolling through urban landscape capture the vibe. Flying above landscape finding hidden patterns. Bliss.
In a parallel universe I would like to be…
… a pastry chef. Creating sugary treats all day long and tasting them. Making people feel happy and contributing to birthdays and weddings.
What you like to be in a parallel universe? Any thoughts on if a parallel universe exists? Would you like to meet yourself from a different universe?

Ooooh I love all these different paths you would choose! In an alternate universe, I would be a chemist or an architect or a doctor.
Ohhh, chemist. Tell me more. Architect is fun too. Doctor I’ll pass.
Hmmm. I think I’d be a Broadway singer or a famous actress. Though I think both careers sound A LOT more glamourous than they actually are.
I would agree. I think it’s really tough being a person in the spotlight. Everyone judging all the time.
I like some of yours – Olympian for sure! Photographer, yes. Artist, yes! Pastry chef- no. I think it looks like more fun than it would be in reality. It’s too bad we only get one shot at life when there are SO MANY interesting things out there!
Totally agree. More shots would be nice. Not sure I agree that a pastry chef is harder than being an Olympian though.
What a fun post! I love your ideas. I am squeamish about the National Geographic photographer. I’d have to have something in my contract where I don’t have to see animals killing each other. Otherwise, I’m all in!
OK, some parallel universe careers for me…
Veterinarian (though emotionally a tough job, and also gross)
Race horse jockey (I used to really want to be a jockey when I was a kid because I love horses… now that I know more about the sport, this is a no go.)
Dog Trainer. There’s a group on Facebook called Tug Dogs that I follow, and they are dog trainers, yes, but more like dog therapists…they work to help dogs be less afraid (and thus less aggressive), and really help them live their best lives. I think I would like this one a lot.
Painter – I have zero skill, and have not tried painting at all, but I think it would be cool to paint wonderful oil paintings and be able to make money to support myself with my art.
Travel Photographer – It would be great to be paid to go all over the world and take beautiful pictures. I guess that goes with your National Geographic one.
Those are some fun and unique careers you have in an alternative universe. I would not be able to do the dog thing. The jockey sounds fun but I have major respect for horses and no clue what that job would entail. The painter is kind of in my artist in Liedes because I couldn’t decide on jewelry, drawing, poems or painting.
Oooh, cool idea for a post! (I’m trying to catch up on reading tons of missed posts.) I think that in a parallel universe I’m a retail manager, a psychologist, a New York City journalist… weird to think about, isn’t it?!
I feel like we are trying to catch up…
Psychologist wow. Retail manager would not be for me but the journalist is intriguing
I love this idea Tobia!
I probably would be a doctor or a chemist or a philosopher or historian – all things I seriously thought about studying at some point. Or maybe I would be a fiber artist of some sort or a home maker.
Oh so wonderful those ideas. In a parallel universe we would have both been sitting in those history classes together. I wanted to study it badly but people told me languages isn’t my strong suit and you had to do Latin and another dead language. Sigh…
I can see you as a fiber artist.
Oh this is fun. You have some really good ideas. I think I’d work in advertising or costume design for a play or show. I’d do something that involved my creative side. Maybe I’d be a stand up comedian. Maybe I’d be a lawyer, because I cannot stand it when people get away with something. (current situation with the high school coach might be influencing me here), but if I was a lawyer, I’d proababy fall apart if I didn’t win. ;)
Oh this sounds good. I understand the lawyer part. It’s hard to watch unfair thing.
Living a creative life is fun. Advertising is tough and it gets very stressful. The husband runs an advertising agency and I spend years in agencies myself. But the highs when something is out in the world is amazing.
Costume design is also a fun thing. Do I you sew?
That’s a fun thought exercise. I love all the different paths that you entertained… and I like the idea of parallel universes where our lives are completely different.
I think in a parallel universe, I’d like to be a travel photographer, a veterinarian, an artist, cook or interior designer.
You and me would be out and about taking amazing photos in the wild. I am sure we would be friends.
It is a fun way to think about what could have been or is… I am leaning toward thinking there are parallel universes out there. Specially after reading Stephan Hawkins even though I only scratched on understanding what he wrote about.
What a unique post idea! I think in a parallel universe, I would be a teacher, a veterinarian, or a published author.
Oh interesting choices. I can see you as an author for sure. And you do love animals. What subjects would you teach?
